A Study in Stillness

Your laugh skips a pebble across
the lake and then suspends in air
while your eyes dance and shine.
Here we sit, side by side,
feet entwined; cups of tea
steaming in our hands build
an ephemeral lemon-scented
wall against the outside cold;
captured all within the halls
of heart-beats: a still-life canvas.
The gas logs flare. The window-panes
freeze. A blanket covers our laps.
The tea still steams between our hands.
