A Week Ago I Saw the Quake

A week ago, July first, I imagined an earthquake.

My mind held a wave, washing through California…

To my husband, I idly mentioned it: “California is going to have a big quake this summer.”

“What. Why?” he asked, “How do you know?”

I shrugged. I have no idea why I knew.

Nor, did I think I was necessarily correct.
We live on a shaky volcano
Last year, it took out Kapoho, and Tutu’s home.
I wasn’t psychic about that.
Or even about the wildfires.

The screeching flames I foresaw— not by
Psychic woo woo’s — but by science.
Increasing dry summers, our profligate addictions,
Everything pointed to burning down the world.

Do I have special powers?
No more than you. No more than Greta, or AOC, or Trump.

We all have powers, untested, and unknown,
Until we shake the Earth,
OR
she shakes us.
