Autumn Comes to Pass

when autumn comes to pass
and the final leaf falls
the naked trees
no longer protected
from the sweeping breeze
lone-ly stand
suffering winter’s chill
while foal bound and play
dancing on fallen leaves
shaking towers stand
through the bitter cold
waiting for spring’s rebirth
when flowers emerge
and green returns
to clothe those
who have survived
winter’s torment
with a mighty yawn
life explodes
yellows, greens, pinks, purples
in colors only dreamt of
and as spring carries on
summer prepares a feast
for all to enjoy
of sunshine and cheer
spreading love
to all who desire
when they’ve had their fill
sleepy autumn returns
quietly plucking leaf by leaf
as they slumber
