It’s beddy-bye time at Trump Mansion
Mama Trump has a story picked out
But where can she find little Donald
That mischievous, wee, ginger sprout

He’s so good at hiding from Mommy
She has to search high when he’s low
A lady like mommy can’t catch him
Or read him her stories, although…

Look under the bed and you’ll find him
Donald does like to hide in plain sight
With his cat Mr. Willow and favorite pillow
He’s dodging Mom’s final goodnight

Now felines are contrary creatures
And value complete independence
They find no mystique, in prolonged hide and seek
And on dust bunnies won’t dance attendance

Mr. Willow strolled so boldly out
Donald’s secret was given away
Mother dear saw directly, his little face freckly
And smiled at his childish dismay

Little Donald’s too easy to anger
And his Trumpian ire arose
He grabbed the poor cat, from the front and the back
And shook all its seventeen toes

But pussy was fast on the come back
For it also had seventeen claws
Which it sank in the rump, on the back of young Trump
Sharp as pins they went right through his drawers

Little Donald he let go that pussy
As he processed a lesson half learned
That kitties have claws on the ends of their paws
That grab back, where Donald’s concerned

Young Trump, he fled straight to his mother
And she gathered him in her embrace
He was still very wriggly, for his backside hurt bigly
When she turned him a serious face

“Young Donnie I’ll you a story
A different one than I had planned
A tale from my youth, full of practical truth
That I learned in my distant homeland

“There was once in the highlands of Scotland
Flying high over heather and gorse
A pussycat bold — with wings made of gold
Who denied gravitational force

“This most remarkable creature
Used her golden flight powers for good
Grabbing children from danger, giving aid to a stranger
Living life in the way that one should

“Listen closely my wee bonnie Donnie
There is much from this tale you may learn
Grab to help, not to bully and understand fully
As you give, you shall get in return”

For a children’s book commissioned before the election but cancelled on Nov 9th.
