Belief by Proxy

I’d like to believe
I believe in you, though
lately, I don’t believe in myself.

Does my lack of faith in me
denigrate my faith in you?
If it does, can it be helped?
If it can’t be helped, what then?

You say it doesn’t matter,
for if I believe in you,
do I not believe
in the part of you
that believes in me?

How can I
deny you
the belief
you bestow
upon me?
I cannot,
though I try.
