Come back to me please
dream tinted sleepy eyes
your waking raft wave riding
towards daylight’s shore
reckoning by fading stars
and the blaze
of my green-eyed face.

Last night
before you fell asleep
you were telling me a story
about a woman
who lived on a island
and the shipwrecked man
who wandered ashore…
I need to know how it ends
how he and she became
what each was looking for.

You drifted away before they
escaped the savage hoard
left me awake and warm
listening to you breathe
buried between soft covers
your diamond eyes
and storybook lips
closed.
