Breaking The Chains

Pinned down by misunderstanding
servants of the ego
upper hand to the heartless

Persuaded to cherish and fight
for causes that kill and separate
swimming further away

Consuming a narrative that drools for ignorance
uplifting jargon spewed by loud voices
mere distractions

Positivity cannot heal
the scars on the backs of the
disregarded

Optimism cannot cure
the overflowing stream
of deception

This chain shall only be
shattered by
the awakening of the individual

The disruption
the cremation of self-centeredness
opening the eye of truth

Freedom lies within
the being
willing to march

To the beat
of their
own heart

and hold
the hand
of those alive and sentient

Remaining aware
of all who have been
burned, hung, stabbed and shot

sacrificed life before us
to promote
love, equality, and humanity.
