Broken promises

We fix after it is broken
and rise after we fall
steadied on our feet

by those whose hearts
we broke to pieces.

But as soon as we are up
promises are made again
that we fail to keep.

Just as the promises made
when you both first met

on that dark cold night
as icy winds cut through
your beautiful lies

and you waited in dark
as she walked into the mist
to call your lover

and promise again.
