Cloudy, Without a Chance

The storms blew in late last night
making a mess of my front lawn.
A rotten branch from the old pecan
broke off and put a foot long
scratch and dent on my car.
The rain would have been a welcome relief
but it seems the clouds were nothing but
wind-bags hoarding their store of water,
playing havoc with the neighbors’ homes.
I needed that rain to fill this dry
spell settling over my soul.
I was hoping for redemption
or relief. Instead, I’ve found
a dark cloud in my silver lining.
