the dawn left its
imprint on me today —

then the birds
took my insides
and fashioned their
songs to my
heartbeat.

glorious!
alive!

glorious!
alive!

yet, i am only
gloriously
alive today
because of yesterday’s
death throes — just as

the bird-songs are
heavenly
because of their long,
wintry

silence.
