its grease gets everywhere

it coats the floors
his car
and the walls of my ribcage
right down to the marrow.

it drips with a plunk and what’s more
echoes, sounding fainter
but pulsating,
reverb threatening
to blow bones apart

but no
it simply plops on through
squirting up through the tubes
coating my mouth
in panic
and inner abhorrence
until fatty words
slip through swollen lips
to reveal
an unsightly spite
that lays beneath
