Saint-Georges et le dragon (1889/90), Gustave Moreau, Public Domain

Heaven has suffered her sadness
Whilst the minds and hearts of humankind
Drown in the sour-sweet sound of madness
And abhorrent thoughts rot cold in rime

Bear in heart your shield and sword
When days get dark,
And nights,
Darker

Bear in mind your lock and key
When the going gets tough,
And the tough,
Tremble

Remember real love
Cling furiously to hope
Embrace steadfast compassion
Tether kindness by rope

With the tenderness of dandelion
And the touch of angel
Remember real love
Steer clear the disdainful

Let not your heart fall into bedlam
May never your worries steal away hope
Dare not anger corrupt compassion
May not greed’s tendrils to charity thus choke

Bear your shield,
Holding hope dear to heart
Defending castle against filth
As swarms its cloud, tear deception apart

Bear your sword,
Striking with love against the great insanity
Shining through nightmare’s thick
And the pinnacle of depravity

Bear the banner,
Bellowing forth hymns of righteousness
Standing tall against the debased armies
And their legions of foulness

Raise your shield,
Swing high your sword
But love to wield,
Charge brave the horde

Sing your song,
To battle do ride
Defeat evil within,
Never fear, never hide
