the pretty shapes that hunger and
depression draw;
campfires of vast loneliness,
their flames still burning; sensing that
substantially
things went too wrong to turn
and re-establish;

such minds are places without handrails,
without the nets
that hold while giving light;
the state of sitting motionless
still comes with fear of falling;

connected to ideas that bleed
from hands that cannot capture;
the lamps in heart and brain and
even guts switched off;
like this, never attached;
no human-friendly batteries
provided in the box.
