I’d reach for you
I thought you were still in the water with me
When my lungs began to burn
I’d find your hand
And find solace
Just long enough
To gasp for air
And then you’d let go
And I’d begin to sink

I’d thrash and struggle
And find you again
Reaching down from the water’s edge
You’d lift, I’d breath
A second of relief
And then I was under

You were satisfied
But I had grown tired
Ready to give up
When I finally heard
You don’t need him to save you
Just swim…

Hopeless romantic, confessional poet, dreamer. Curious about words.
