for Terri

Sometimes lonely and not alone,
I think of you when we were young.
We gave no thought to growing old.
Now the days of vibrant shades
have slowly turned to muted gold
with the tinge of frost in air.
Fall gives way to Winter’s kiss
and proceeds inevitably.
Still, we’re taken by surprise
as twilight falls and night arrives.
