First Bite

First bite the same as the last

Tingling sensations unveil the past.

Safety, comfort, hope

Memories that help me cope

To be anything I want

Surrounded by parents, siblings, uncles and aunts.

Memories of fun

When the tangy chips graced my tongue

Saturday morning Cap’n Crunch

McDonalds, that special lunch.

Sitting at the table, so dear.

Listening to stories too young for my ears

Four years old, giddy

Eating fried catfish and spaghetti.

Feeding the emotional

No regrets instinctual.

Remembrances of happier times

Pleasantries consume my mind.

Reality — moments fade

Erased in salty, flavorful sweetness

Indeed, the first bite is the same as the last

Cherished memories, gone so fast.
