They came from near and far
On coffin ships
Some lost at sea
With a dream of being free
Many never saw the shore
The Statue of Liberty
The torch, a symbol of enlightenment
Never of entitlement
It shone the way
To freedom
Opportunity
Apparently
But no more
What was it all for
It’s now another age
Closed doors
Building walls
To encage
Enrage
Keep out signs
Across the world
A virus of dispossession
The last few years filled with so much rage
A DNA test could throw
Some confusion in the face, of this oppression
This idea of a pure race
Protectionism
Our land, the keep out stance
A creation of past history repeats
Of forefathers invading again
A journey through the ages
Where progeny may have to disperse
Across the universe
The next generations in centuries to come
In response to greenhouse aggression
Ravaging the world
Already war torn
Should they have to flee
Would they could find security
Do you understand the behaviour
The tweets, the derogatory nature
Of the so called leaders
Do they think ahead
Can they see the consequences
Where could they lead with the free world in pieces?
Or would they just run for cover
In a restricted bunker
A jigsaw puzzle
With no cohesion
Reminding the living of what happens
When people are scared
For their livelihood
Desperate for some relief
The response can be knee jerk
Anyone who knows their history
Must wonder if
Selfish and destructive behaviour
Linked to monetary gain
Will make the world unsafe
For future generations again
