Gable Ended

Gable ended, cornices covered ornamentally
light drifted languidly through leaded glass
colored brightly pieced like some intemperate image.

On the dunce hat Victorian, weather vane
spinning cockatrice wrestled with the winds
and hints of hail darkened the horizon.

Ratty drapes danced over a whistling reed
the eaves of opened windows propped with Donne
a perfectly good use for sodden poetry.

The storm came.
