Gaia Shrugged

Yea, Gaia shrugged
and swept away
the town — debugged
Arugam Bay:
scratching an itch,
as is her wont,
like some tripswitch
that people don’t
yet understand
— and though I dare
to question hand
that chose to spare
me by minutes,
I won’t presume
to take credit
for side-stepped doom
— my life preserved
for a season
for no deserved
rhyme or reason —
(Indeed, my date
with cheated death
may be worse fate:
slow strangled breath.)
Still, on that day
I did see God —
though not in way
of those now sod —
and so thanks give
in poetry
for chance to live
through tsunami.
