Good Grief
Your consistency lulled me into submission
You quickly became my favorite
Enamored doesn’t begin to describe
The vortex of security you swallowed me into
Kept me
And nowhere became a place I knew well
To have been stolen was cause for no alarm
I followed your allure
You meant what you did
Took me prisoner and shackled me to your greatness
I gave in without protest
Was no competition
You cradled me with your best intentions to do your worst
Stripped away my resiliency in song
Lullabied your way in
And day after day I’d fall deeper
You knew the precise arrangement of every part of me
Knew the degree of the curve in my frown
In precision, you operated
Took peace strategically and left me in pieces
Infectious kisses crowded my space and were welcomed mistakingly
The stakes no higher than I’d imagined
But life in fantasy isn’t really living
You damaged me wearing the sweetest smile
Wore me ragged for a while
But gifts wouldn’t allow me to be stagnant
Your version of bliss isn’t worth the trouble
I won’t be stifled anymore
I’m consorting with my past to get back to before
There is isolation on my horizon
The sun will rise without us
And emancipation never felt so right
