Grounded in the Grit of Life

Start at the point of helplessness,
nowhere to turn,
heat rising,
move past the shoulds and didn’ts,
and secret, secret fears,
not enough.
Thoughts roll around your brain,
crowding out the muse,
todos pull you down from the clouds.
Ground yourself in the grit of life.
Plant roots deep today,
and grow,
this, the season of full flowers,
late summer sun.
