Heart Gecko

© Markus Russin

In every cell of me
There rests an artful gecko
That crawls and flows and beats
Through every open space

Some time ago I caught it
Or rather: it caught me
Ensconcing itself gently
In tissue near my heart
And through its scales it tried
To paint me its invasion
As harbinger of love

It barely found its way
Into my leaking being
But once it was inside
This traveller remained
By planting excess tails
And I became part reptile

The better part of me…
