Hell n’ Back

Through searing fire, snow and earth
Baptism by brass, a warrior’s birth
Eyes which even ole Beelzebub fears
They know not retreat, never shed any tears

You’ll catch their names as honored ghosts
Up the trench, bayonets to boast
Marched on through a dozen wars
Fighting forward upon dark shores

For God and country, kith and kin
Against bullet blaze they charge therein
Advancing deeper, through Hell n’ back
How to flee? They know not that

You may catch them now and then
Old faces of war, wandering where and when
Some memories fade but such aren’t theirs
You’ll find them guarding Heaven’s stairs

So take the time to so salute
They who’ve tread, boot by boot
Lost they aren’t, they’ve found their way
Forever on guard, keeping Hell at bay

Dedicated to our fallen heroes
