Why is the Dal lake looking like a red scary dream?

Why are the tulips in the valley drooping in pain

Why are the trees dropping their branches in shame

Oh my beautiful Kashmir!

You tender innocent beauty

Has the orange singed you with its flame?

Have the three spikes of steel been used to maim?

Sorry that we couldn’t protect you with our dharma

Sorry that we would now blame your karma

Sorry our Beti Bachao is just a punch line

Sorry that we forget that you are as much a child as mine

Hush… there are a few brave voices rising

Can you hear them now over the noise of the Azaan and the Bhajan singing?

Hush …. we will walk into an angry rotten world for you

We will redeem our country and get you your due
