I DECIDED TO GIVE YOU UP

I decided to give you up.
With that you take my love.
A love that only I knew of.
A love that was
As deep as the vast ocean
In which I’m drowning.

I decided to give you up.
Time was against us,
Time was unforgiving,
Giving us so little of its being,
By the time I realized what I felt,
It was too damn late.

You loved me a little, I know,
I heard the tone of your voice,
And I felt your eyes:
Penetrating my soul,
Reading my mind,
Breaking my heart.

But I decided to give you up.
Because you did not speak.
You did not say
What was in your heart.
You did not even
Give me a chance.

Your silence devoured,
The little hope I had,
That we would be something more,
Than glances passing by.
You do not know,
But you kept a part of me.

And here I will always have
an empty space, lingering in my heart;
Desperately screaming out
The ‘what ifs’ of a past
That will never come back,
And all because…

I Decided to give you up.
