I wish I had a thousand lives for every lovely thing,

For dance and music-making and for every kind of art;

For travel, speaking foreign tongues and also listening

to others share their stories full of longings from the heart.

I wish I had a thousand lives for every thing that’s good.

For starry nights and oceans deep and secrets to be told,

For friendships and adventurous walks through nature’s glorious wood,

For children growing up and watching history unfold.

I do not have a thousand lives; In fact, I have just one;

but a thousand opportunities before this day is done.
