In every season of the heart

In the space between my heartbeats
I wait
I pull the blanket of your silence close around me
and I wait
I breathe your name a thousand times
I wait
I reread my poems to you, I tremble,
and I wait
Certain that this anger storm will pass
I wait
Though you cannot hear my voice
I wait
Against the best intentions of my friends
I wait
By the grace of memory
I wait
To know what lies on the other side of sadness
I wait
Guilty with innocence
I wait
I yield to patience and forgiveness
I wait
Cleansed of expectation
I wait
Until I hold you once again, or not
I wait
In utter authenticity
I surrender to the mystery
For the promise
Of our promise
And the path that lies before us
In every season of the heart
I wait.

I am just like you; we all are remarkably, fundamentally similar. The particulars may be particularly interesting, but they remain an illusory distraction.
