In the Details

Devil’s in the details, oh traveler
Seer of sights, mapped world unraveler
When mocked or maddened, upset or saddened
We mustn’t let him uproar in addend

When another pokes we mustn’t prod
If another laughs, but smile and nod
Even if the whole world does evil condone
“Let the one who has never sinned cast the first stone!”

This world ain’t meant for the righteous of heart
I’ll tell ya now, God’s set ye apart
“But why am I here?” So the righteous may ask
And God, she says, “because I will it”, right back

But what about her wish, the wish of lovers?
The giving of saints and care of mothers?
A goal it is, to see that side
To be in the world as but passerby

So anger not when others attack
The blind remain blind, we mustn’t strike back
Ignorance is as ignorance does
Beware the blare of Beelzebub’s buzz

I see not the err of ways
In the common man, his shadow of days
In they who live but for themselves
Drunk off this world, dirt-dusted shelves

Devil’s in the details, go tell your kin
But God’s right here, she’s warm within
In another’s eyes you’ll come to see
What oh is, oh, what will be
