Jumping off

Dawn breaks over the world
But the view in my eyes is dark
Tawdry gilt shot through with
diseased puce crawls across the sky
Blue-grey waters roll ponderously
Murky depths keening lament
Crows caw nearby, exhorting
in graveyard voices to oblivion
Salt-loaded wind abrades skin
eroding me to the nothing I feel
I stand at the edge of the rocks
looking into hypnotic vortex below
I hear the siren call of emptiness
of absolution from life, from feeling
Apathy and lethargy keep me standing,
the only together in my life
Threshold of day and night, I stand
poised between existence and death
Lack of energy to take even one step
the only thing keeping me from jumping off
