LAGOON 3

Dreaming…top bunk
Mid Pacific…heading east…home.
The time Miles Kilman
Drank the water from Nori’s shrine
Chasing Suntory
And we laughed.
“That you safe” she pointed.
“Now you catchee die”.
Kampai…we toasted…To Taro!
“Now you die” over and over;
Sobbing…
Waking

Dreaming…Guamemory,
A party at Jesus’s shack
On Tenjo’s flank.
Vodka and benzedrine;
Pineapple cake…
Jesus’s daughter Joanna;
We slept in hammocks afterward.
Then in a battered Jeep;
Maybe Brigade Beach below Yona;
A curved coral beach;
Misty;
Waking

Dreaming…changed.
A cove…lagoon;
Seafloor of coral shrapnel;
Head debris…sharp gravel.
The reef a white spume line
Caressed by fresh sundown breeze.
Miles was there…
How…one between the eyes
On East Hill…a frozen flower.
Phantom people
Moving toward the reef.
Jean stood before him…
Slid backwards…away…gone.
Is that Nori…holding Taro Kilman?
Apparitions moving steadily.
…The reef…
Collyer…Tony…AWK.
Deep water of the Marianas trench;
Misty…
The reef…
Screaming, waking…a cold sweat.
Time and space
Juxtaposistioned, bastardized
