These trinkets and ankhs have lost their charm
This cage is less protection than harm
Calm is not preferred to the storm

Flavours carry a diminished bite
Response team has no fight or flight
When nothing’s left who knows what is right

When losses mount, in an existential war
And the victory bell clamours no more
And the mantle slips from the core

But obstacles can help guide the way
And tribulation can combat complacency
When the choice arises at the end of the day
To pursue zesty passion or succumb to ennui
