Laughter’s Sweet Release
we walked down memory lane
together
the windy, curved path on the mountains edge
careful not to veer from the path of laughter
laughter helps a rigid, stiff body
remember how to move, to shake
release the tension
we forget we are holding on to
laughter deep in the belly
reach similar spots
in body’s core
allowing tears
for those who have forgotten how to cry
sleeping child in my arms
as my belly shakes
laughter imprinted early
as the room erupts
please don’t let them tell you not to cry
and when they do
don’t listen
cry, cry, cry
when you are sad
laughter has a sweet relief
but cannot expel what grief requires
