Living in the Now

When the past is dead and the future uncertain
Living in the Now becomes the only option left
To catch each moment as it’s floating by
like in that old-time fun-fair game where
hopeful kids with fishing rods
attempt to lift some plastic ducks
out of a swiftly flowing stream.

Each duck holds the promise of a win:
A giant Smurf, or just a consolation prize.
No one goes home empty handed…
Life is more scary
Its surprises are not always fun
Even so, living in the Now,
nobody goes home empty handed.
