Love Boat

The boat that could have salvaged us
from stormy oceans lies wrecked;
the hull could not withstand
the weight of our baggage
as much as we tried to anchor into our present
nothing could propel us
to revive that which sank alive
torn sails bear witness
to winds of change we could not survive
an abandoned lighthouse could not guide
a sorry white flag
that surrendered to the waves we could not ride
broken oars languish
on the surface of efforts that drowned
rough waters could not hide
blood, sweat and tears that stain the tide
carrying our immortal remains
to where the ocean meets the sky.
