Ajax and Cassandra by Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, 1806

She tried to make a change
but he kept her within striking range

Everyone knew she had to get out
by the first, the second, the third knockout

Finally, her steps he mistook
as exile disguised as fluke

He never was the kind to let things go
nor allow others to grow

In the end he always wanted more
& she could never love as much as before

so he cut her wings before she could soar

& wiped fake tears when her body washup onshore

Wanna lace a working artist’s palm? Just clap.
