MERCIFULLY NOT KNOWING
Sometimes love just dangles you there
Offers no understanding as you hang in the air
So you hold on to your hopes way too long
Till your spirit awakens a sweet hopeful song
It always begins with colorful dreams —
Chemicals pull us, persuade us, in each happy scene
Yet we’re just ragged beggars who sadly proclaim
That love will protect us, and make us, free from all pain
My lover and I speed along on a train
Where time passes too quickly, then goes backwards again
Tempting the hopes that we all entertain —
That love make us, and take us, home once again
But fossils like me just don’t give a damn
For the losses we face or the punches we land
We are the victims of what’s always been claimed —
That living in love will end all our pain
