All Nature’s secrets lay hid in night. God said “Let Newton Be!” and all was light. Alexander Pope

The glory of an Iris, Credit: Christyl Rivers

Every December 24th, we’re giddy with the greed of mirth
But, Every December 25th we remember Newton’s birth

Passionate love of science must be more than flirtation
On the whole, we need Nature’s resplendent light of creation

Much as Light to the world is no small thing
The seed of the Fig contains a full promise of spring

And, this time of year we should also embrace
Glistening snowflakes, flames, and amazing space

Birdsong is beauty, ocean tempests are power
Sharing, as we do, ephemeral DNA of a flower

We need glorious stars to shine beings into miracles
We need all that is empirical, but also inexplicable.
