What a friend to us is Jesus,
What an ally in our struggles,
Walking here along beside us,
Sharing all our pain and troubles.

We are not alone in hardships
For He knows what we endure:
Recall Him weeping in the garden,
Tears of blood and deep despair.

When the world is overwhelming
Fall into the Saviour’s arms;
Love unending, unrelenting
Will shield you from the angry storms.

Jesus knows our every weakness
And He loves us just the same.
We were crafted in His image;
There’s no reason for this shame.

Those despised and those forsaken:
In Jesus’ arms they will find peace.
That embrace will be a haven:
This holy shield will never cease.
