My Secret List

Keep a page in your mind,
Away from all human kind,
A list of the things you find,
To criticism and insults be blind.

Test them first. Is it true?
Are they really describing you?
If they are, anything you can do?
Is this worth any kind of pursuit?

For when others put you down,
They are making their own frown,
Since you set foot in this town,
You’ve kept private what you have found.

If any should ever bully or put you to task,
Secretly, and firstly, yourself ask,
Is this exposure worth removing my mask?
Shut down the “put downs” with this hasp.
