On Sorrow and happiness

Sorrow is accurate, Happiness is a blur

Sorrow has each detail etched
on the vast scales
of nerves, repeating, circulating,
pausing at a moment
rewinding and repeating again
with pristine accuracy

Sorrow is a presence
forever etched overhead
Like a dark cloud
plunging lower every moment
Any moment now it could burst and pour

Happiness is a balloon flying away
Up in the sky further
and further away
In the end
only a tiny dot
barely there and then
Gone amiss
was it ever there?
You could doubt

Perhaps, happiness is
like writing on a newly painted
blackboard
Leaving chalky white remnants
Telling you, you were once there
You had smiled once,
but somehow you can’t remember
how did it all pass away –

a tinge of color there,
a vacancy in the heart
forgetful.
