Open Roads

We are vagabond moments,
setting out on roads near and far
to find one another
and then, hand in hand,
wandering easy
in morning’s clear and beckoning light.
Until, when shadows stretch and darken,
still hand in hand, we pause.
For a moment,
framed in the red gold dazzle of the lowering sun,
then turn and head for home.
