Open Water

My cohort speeds by

from their wave

a wake ushers in

self deprecation

flashbacks of drowning

treading desperately

now seems futile

as sounds muffle

my eyes drift

captured in blue

sunny skies

I’m reminded

No hurry

while floating

effortlessly

seemingly content

trying to savor

every last moment

On this commute

Poets Unlimited
