Open Wound

We love to talk of triumph —
how we beat the odds,
turned the tables,
came out on top

It’s ok to say we messed up
as long as it’s past tense
How often are we brave enough
to show the open wound
as it heals;

to allow another
to bear witness to our pain
as it is hurting

To be vulnerable
is the only path
to being a true bad-ass

and the only way
to really connect
with life
