RIVERHUS REVISITED

After rain dispersed
Most people then stopped,
I walk a dark wet street.
Wind presses sodden debris,
Dead leaves cluster
On the rusted fence
Around the old, deserted house.

Standing under the street lamp;
Time from another place;
Place from another time.
Rotted ladder to the oyster shell bay mud;
Boarded broken window;
Hint of green shade in board gaps
In a room dank with old book smell.

The house seems awkwardly crooked;
Its brief incandescent trip;
Return, long ago.
Reflection in a sidewalk rain puddle
My seaweed shrouded visage.
Now her alongside me…then gone.
Then me…gone too.
