rivers reign in their meandering way

Rivers reign in their meandering way
Alongside rolling hills, bluffs, sometimes sand
Near oceans of desert dunes sensing sway
Dancing with the waters drawn from the hand
You dipped to wash, rinse and sip thirst away.

Far more is the aim of the rain that fell
Light as mist, heavy as hail, off then on,
Engaging to flood across and drive well
Inside rock nights, dark earth that fills then spawns
Streams with stories for the rivers to tell.
Holy notions invite a plunge to dive
Entirely and float submersed in right rain
Rising to join the urge, driving, alive.
