seasons of beauty
I left work
and saw a white dog
across the street
a strange breed
big bodied
white as flour with pointy ears
an old man was pulling the leash
but the dog
did not want to move at all
he was there
staring at me
piercing my soul
to my very bones
the man was trying to move him
but the animal just sat there
he crossed the street
and walked towards me
the white beast
whined and licked my hands
I buried my face in her neck
and kissed her fur
she embraced the good in me
a certain type of good
that people forget they have
when they walked in the darkness
for too long
the man said
“I have never seen an animal
love
someone like that
from afar”
I exhaled my heart
into her paws
she was warmth
I came home and closed my eyes
and the days are sweet
just like
apples
falling out of your hands
and into my
mouth
and the silent sunsets
covered
ten thousand years
of your
skin.
