to my silent field
only the cranes have returned
autumnʻs gold, silver

rice stubbles, grey mud. momiji have turned and fallen. the tsuru have arrived, their squawkeling, chirrbling, their clear clean notes awaken me to dawnʻs chill greeting. these humble walls echo only silence and a whisper of hope that you will bring

a final dewfall
before the approaching frosts
memories shimmer

dawn warmed only by recollections of green, longer days, sunlight on water and your skin. once the wind rippled the rice, rippled your hair. seasons turn, leaving for

soon she will arrive
clothed in shades of white and grey
colors, stored away
