Spice of Life

But what
is this thing
called life
without
the corresponding wonder
of death
— the essence of mystery?
What is it
without
that element
of danger,
sudden cease
that lurks
in wait
for unwary
street-crosser, even
— that edge
of danger
down dark alleys:
which you
challenge, anyway
(if only occasionally)
— to add spice
to existence?
’Tis death.
