Spring is now

“this,”
I said, in a mid-waking state, “this
is spring,”
this right now,
this transitory, fleeting, evanescent moment

right there. I heard it crackle,
I heard it crackle (again)

like a snake
rustling through brittle leaves
and
then,

something inside me moved too,
it was a rustle in that area below my heart

there things bubble up
like when a twig falls in a well and water swells up —
I swelled too.

It was a knock on the door,
(a trumpet call)
a large bell ringing, and here she is

this
spring.
