Tailgating: The Gathering of Fans
Outside the stadium,
fans ate their sacrificial meals
Up from the fires of charcoal
and propane gas
Aroma pleasing to the Gods
Team colors streaming
Loyal subjects painting their faces
Like dragons transcending into,
a hostile world, ready to fight,
alongside their masters in stride
Drink up, Drink up, children of the gridiron
Drink the golden nectar
Dilute the realities of loss
Celebrate, Hip, hip hoorah,
for victory not yet won
Now go, enter the catacombs,
of merchandise and souvenirs
Spend your sustenance
Feed the hungry vendors,
who exploit your devotion
Outside the stadium,
the parking lot desolate,
left to scavenging fowl,
abandoned to the fervor inside,
let the marching band play….
